Gaming News: Steam News Update
We have one more week of releases coming to Steam before we close out 2005. Next week there will be two new player models, one for each team, released for Counter-Strike: Source. Early next year we'll be releasing a completely rebuilt version of cs_milita. There is also a fairly high chance we'll be releasing an update to Day of Defeat: Source next week, which will include a number of small changes.
Earlier this week Darwinia was launched, and from what we've gathered, people are really enjoying the game. If you're not sure if Darwinia is for you, check out the demo here.
We'd also like to congratulate the folks over at Introversion Software for Darwinia's 4 nominations at next year's Independant Games Festival. As we've mentioned a number of times, we're all huge fans of the game, and it's great to see the game get the recognition it deserves.

Gaming News: ServerChecker v3.0
ServerChecker was created to keep our servers up and running. We run system-intensive mods on our servers and like all software they might not be free of bugs/crashes. ServerChecker has one big advantage over a batch file: It works from a user-perspective.
Scripts, FireDaemon and others would run the program in an infinite loop, counting on the server process to terminate when something happens. ServerChecker on the other hand communicates directly with the server the same way a player would, so if the server doesn't respond to user queries it will get restarted. On top of that, ServerChecker is completely free.
Read more about it on their site HERE

Gaming News: Has Microsoft Neglected PC Gamers
Microsoft has pledged to ‘put the game back into Windows’, admitting that its lack of investment in PC has been ‘killing’ the platform. The firm has outlined to MCV details of an 18-month drive to establish Games For Windows as a platform with the credibility of PlayStation and Xbox, ahead of the launch of the Vista operating system.
“It’s our biggest ever investment in Windows gaming,” said product manager Kelly Stanmore. “The Windows business is down 10 per cent year-on-year and we’ve lost shelves of space. We’re killing off that community without the retail support.”
Microsoft has neglected PC gamers as it pushed forward with Xbox, but the advent of 360 will mark a defining moment for its gaming ambitions.
“We’re putting the ‘game’ back in Windows,” explained group manager Chris Donohue. “We’re over the hump with Xbox 360 so now ready to build Windows as a platform.”
